Deadlands

Man that race was hard. It is always a shocker to go out for the first race of the year, but man, I suck! Went OK in the TT, then blew my load in the 90 minute crit to get 129th and had nothing left during the circuit race. Doug and his silly Healthnet teamies had it cranked to 11 from the gun, and I kept getting dropped. I made it back on for 3 laps by giviner on the descent through the cars but then I got tired and couldnt do it anymore. After the chase group cought me and dropped me, I dropped my slef right back to my host house, took a shower and went home. Time to get down to business and ride bikes a bit more. I kinda suck right now and need to get my shit together in time for the first Norba in a month. Word.

Bikes

Well, I have ridden quite a bit in the last few days. Sunday was in the order of 100 miles and 10,000 Ft of climbing. Good times. I was pretty tired after that and the weather went to shit yesterday so I only did 2 hrs yesterday and again today. Tomorrow Sneddon and his Hommie are coming back through on the way down to the Nova Desert Classic. I am headed south again on Thursday for Redlands. Should be pretty fun, I hope. Nothing else to really report on, its has been a pretty relaxed week. Today I made a bunch of food over at Sarahs profs house for their finals grading session. That was good fun, I even got payed in bottles of wine so I am stoked. I guess I should take a nap now, or maybe go get Sarah and make some dinner. Later on

Well Rested

I haven't really ridden my bike very much in the last few days, so to make up for it me and Vernor are doing the Flamingo ride today. All 6 hours of it. Good Times! I haven't been able to ride because I went down to Santa Barbara for the Kona Demo with Matson on Friday. We got stuck in a wicked traffic jam after they closed the 101 due to some police shooting/ mud slide from hell or something. It sucked. I ran back to the trailer while stuck in traffic and got the cooler and brought it back to the van so at least Sarah and I were entertained. We hung out in Down Town Santa Barbara on St Patrick day and saw all the pretty people. That place is weird. I felt like I was back in Portland in one bar cause it was all EMO and shit, everyone with shaved heads and small square glasses and short sleeve button up shirts. What a bunch of posers! They all looked like David Cross wannabees... Slept in late then walked down town for some light breakfast. I was still pretty stuffed from the all you can eat sushi from the night before. Ryan came up and picked us up and we headed out to the Demo site. There we found about 4000 gromes shredding the nar on the sweet Kona Demo fleet. I rode my fully rigid hard tail to the top while everyone else's took the shuttle and I still beat them to the top. The "hill" was tiny but there were a few jumps and berms on the trail so it was good fun. All the gromes were making fun of my spandex until I toasted them down the hill on my XC bike then they all shut up. Sweet! This is probably the longest update in a while but all sorts of good stuff went down. We drove back last night up the 1 through Big Sur and had a grand old time pinning it past terrified dads in there SUV's hitting the lights in mid turn and getting sketchy in there crappy Durangos. We blasted past in the Teal turd like they were standing still and only had to pull evasive maneuvers a few times to keep it on the road. Good Stuff. Anyways, back in the Cruz and the sun, so time to chamois up and hit the road. Ran is suck a hoser....

Kona Training Kamp

The last 3 days have been pretty good. Sneddon and his buddy Matt were down here fomr Santa Rosa and we did a ton of riding. The first day involved about 5 hours and 8500 ft of climbing. Wednesday we did the Wednesday ride and then headed out longer with Fred Dreier from Velonews and showed him how team Kona trains. we hit some wicked single track on the road bikes and then got osme cookies... Today was a nice one up the coast in the wind. Good times. Now the boys are headed back up to the land of Levi and I am headed down to Santa Barbara for a demo. Got a sweet box full of road stuff so i have been trying to get all my new shit dialed in. It is always stressful trying out new shoes and saddles and the like but I think I have it all dialed. That is it, time for a shower and a nap, maybe then I will wash the caked mudd off my road bike...

Ryan is still a slacker...and training is still for people who suck

Another Sunday in the Snow

I thought I had left the nasty cold wet snowy weather back in Belgium, but today proved me wrong. In what is becoming a habit of sorts Vernor and I headed out for an epic again today. We climb up pretty high, and around each turn more and more slush appeared in the road. By the top it was pretty thick, but we eased it on through and made it back to the low lands and warmer temps before we got to cold. Those cali boys sure like to complain about the cold though... Made it an even 5 hours by looping through town and out south for a few more climbs before calling it a day. Matson called from LA a few hours ago, hope he makes it up before too long. Check out Lady Sovereign if you get a chance, 20 years old from east London and full of smarts and hot beats. Peace out.

Luck is on my side

I seem to have been applying perfect luck to my rides for the last few days. The weather down here hasn't been exactly peachy lately. Last night it hailed so much we drove around in it and had some real fun. The roads were covered and there was even massive sections underwater from it. Then this morning when I woke up it was blue bird skies and warm temps. WTF? I will take it though. 8.5 hours in the last 2 days, not to bad. Planning a big one tomorrow unless it snows in the higher elevations again. The legs are feeling good but I am not to sure how awesome Redlands is going to be. Those road guys like to ride fast and stuff... Oh well, what are you going to do? Time for me to take a nap and then maybe eat some dinner. Ryan still isn't training yet. As he puts it, "Training is for people who suck."

In to the Base

Looking back at my training log, I have ridden 22 hours in the last 5 days. Man I am tired! Guess that means I still have 8 to do in the next 2 days. That shouldn't be to hard. Treboner is down here laying in my couch right now. He tried to drive down but got half way and had to turn around because it was snowing to much in the mountains and ended up flying down the next day. We did one 5 hour ride and he hasn't been able to get off the couch since. What a wuss. Today it is hailing out and pretty cold. I can hardly wait to get out there in that. Mcfatson (www.matson.blog.com) is going to come down next week and chill for a while is on the road almost every day of the year so it will be a treat for him to sleep on my couch for a while instead the back of his van... Word, anyways, I figured I better update my site since Scary made a sweet montage to me on his so here you go. I am not nearly as entertaining as that guy, but I guess we cant all have 5 cats and a dog. I wonder if Ryan is going to start training soon?

Peace out

Dueling Banjos Worthy ride

Today was a pretty sweet one. Headed out with Brian Vernor, of Puresweethell fame, for some back road exploration in and around the hills of Santa Cruz. Discovered new to me roads all just beyond the surface of where I have ventured before. Riding with a local intills cinfidance while carrening down old single lane roads lined with busted up cars and gated driveways... Ended up doing about 5 hours with our final descent takig us down through Nisene Makrs state park via fire road. We took one of Brians "shortcuts" and ended up riding down an old washed out logging road, fording a stream that was progressivley getting deeper and deeper each time we crossed, ubtill we were finally forced to take off our shoes and socks and leg warmers and wade across a knee deep torent to get back to civilization. Good times, especially since I was rockin it on my road bike. Never before have you seen suck amazing grace and style as I carened around muddy truns with aplomb and wheeled through creek crossings with ease. I have to say though, Shimano Dura Ace pedals suck ass in the mud. After emerging form the dark woods we crusied into town and hit a coffee shop for some liquid energy. 5 hours into the ride seemed like a good time for a refreshment. Man I love doing base miles! We avoided the rain all day but now it is cataclismic out and doesnt seem to be lettig up. Hope Ryan has a fun time stuck in Ashland tonight in the snow. Sucka foo! That is a real shit way to spend ones birthday, no worries though, I am still going to buy hima cake when he gets here.

Peace out yo

crazy

well, it has begun. I have started training again. it has been pretty sweet, good weather and all that jazz. the deckerator was down here and we did the santa cruz single speed county line race last saturday. it was sweeet! 10 miles on the road down hwy 1, 10 miles through the farms on the rr tracks, 10 miles through town on the rr tracks and then 10 miles on the beach. yes, the beach. sand water and all that fun stuff. it was pretty good times, we were killing it for a while but then got tired so we pulled over to take some pictures with some local grafiti grommets and then ate some cookies. ryan likes the ladies with big glasses, so all you ladies looking for some tree farm lovin go out and buy your self a set and you will be in like flyn. fatson is comming to town next week and ryan is comming tomorrow so i will probably not update this site again for like 45 days cause we will be on a "fishing trip" if you know what i mean. peace out
