Barry,
Here's some perspective on how long your race "season" has been. I'm looking at your 1998 Cross Crusade jersey. It sounds like you remember the fun, take some time to yourself and find it.

Barry, I lived in Portland back in 2004 and I remember one race in particular in Corvallis in the most mud I've ever ridden in. And while I couldn't hardly keep my bike up, you just blew right past me like your tires weren't even touching the ground. I dropped out and threatened to never race in oregon in the spring again! Meanwhile, I watched you coming through the finish in 1st place, jumping on the pedals like the boogeyman was chasing you....strong as ever, covered in mud......happy. Keep it up man! It's good to see you're still kicking some ass.

Not many people want to read about how someone as fortunate as you to have such a rare gift that we would all die for, is not enjoying being a Proffesional bike racer... waaaaa!

I feel so bad for you as I sit in my cubicle that I come to every single day with no off season.

Next time I'm having trouble turning the pedals over I'll just think of your ungrateful whining. That should anger me enough to start sprinting again.

it's too bad you couldn't get a job you loved joey. given the right amount of motivation, everyone can do exactly what they want. don't complain about one honest guy, who you have no idea what his job entails, for sharing the realities of his job. clearly you are sharing yours entailing a cubicle.

p.s. don't read the articles and you won't be angered

HAHA!! What planet are you from? Yes that's all it takes is determination and we all would have our dream jobs... You're either extremly naive or just dumb.

I'm sure Barry's life is stressful with all his traveling and non-bike duties. My point was no one wants hear about it. We all have extra duties in our lives that suck. barry is fortunate enough to have the greatest job on the planet. That's what people want to read about. No one likes a whiney athlete.

P.S. I'll still be angry regardless of my reading habits.

Easy Kids, it is all good. I understand that some people might be upset about my last entry, but I was feeling pretty cracked at that point and thought I would share it with you all. I realize I have a pretty special job and should not complain about the harder aspects of it, and I try my best not to. At the end of the day, I am doing what I love and am greatful for that. Keep giviner and things will always turn out for the good.

Dude, by all means complain. Don't hold that stuff in. Just don't do it in a Velo News article. Your fans across the world want to hear about what it's like to race like a superhuman. What thoughts go through your head when traveling at light speed. Most of us will never race and win a Elite race. We want a glimpse into that world. Not about how bad it sucks to sit in airports.

I'm just sayin...

Nice article, it mirrored the feeling I had exactly leading up to kansas city.

It's good to be done for a little while.

Nice article Barry, I think we're all feeling you right now. You should take a real break and head to the tropics too.
